Full-day tour: 9:00 – 17:00 h
Karlovac is a city which lies on 4 rivers, only a 40-minute drive from Zagreb. The trip includes a walk around the city, a visit to the Aquatika Freshwater Aquarium and a ride on the Grain Boat (a river boat on the Kupa River).
In the Aquarium, you can see Croatian freshwater fish fauna and plants, as well as their habitats, with more than 80 species of fish, including 30 endemic species. Endemic species are plants or animal species that are only found in one specific geographic area. If a certain area is very small (e.g., a cave, lake, river or a mountain), the species living there is then classified as steno endemic. It is important to note that among the 150 fish species found in Croatia’s rivers and lakes, 52 of them are endemic. This biodiversity is the result of Croatia’s geographical position – the Danube River, which flows through the country and discharges into the Black Sea – and the proximity of the Adriatic Basin.
This tour is both very educational and fun!
